Plant based burger becoming mainstream

More than 11 million Beyond Burgers have been sold in stores and eateries across the States, according to company Beyond Meat.cThe high-tech patty - which has been engineered entirely from plants in a bid to create a more sustainable protein source than beef - has been hitting the menu at more and more restaurants in recent months.

According to a spokesperson: "Since its launch, Beyond Meat has sold more than 11 million Beyond Burgers. "Today, it is sold in the meat case at more than 5,000 grocery stores nationwide, including Kroger, Albertsons Companies, Stop & Shop, Shaw’s, Jewel Osco and Whole Foods, as well as on menu at more than 6,000 restaurants, hotels and college campus dining halls."

To compound on its success in the US (and Hong Kong, the only international territory where it is currently being sold), the company has plans to sell the product in the UK. Beyond Meat Chairman Seth Goldman told PBN that the burger would come to Britain in the first quarter of 2018 - and the company is reportedly gearing-up for the launch.

According to Goldman: "There's real excitement about Beyond Meat in the UK, which is why we've chosen the UK to be our first retail market outside the US. We think the potential is fantastic."
