Smithfield start to sell online in China
The world's largest pork producer WH-Group, parent company of Smithfield as also parent of China's largest pork producer Shuanghui and chinese largest e-commerce company for fresh products, Jingdong (JD.com) sign a strategic cooperation paper in New York. According to the agreement, Jingdong group will become the exclusive online marketing channel of all Smithfield pork products in China. At the same time, the two sides will also be in the big data, cold chain and traceability field to carry out more in-depth cooperation.
Smithfield's pork products are known for their higher raw meat quality. The cooperation is based on bone and by-products, mainly small package frozen products. These are Smithfield single products with high yield, and are also facing the domestic market demand. Jingdong fresh is ranked first in China fresh online suppliers. In the meat sector, in the first half of this year, the total turnover of raw meat products of Jingdong increased by 780% compared with the same period last year. Today's Jingdong is the country's largest online pork retail platform.
These products are only the first step of cooperation between the two sides. According to the agreement, Jingdong and Smithfield in the big data level docking and interoperability, for example, in the sale of products for data analysis and classification, in-depth study of consumer shopping trends and arrange the corresponding precise marketing. In order to ensure the quality and safety of products, the two sides will also achieve seamless docking in cold chain logistics. In the United States, Smithfield can monitor the temperature of freight cars and containers in real time, whether by land or by sea. After entering the domestic products, there are two sets of cold chain distribution system of Jingdong and Shuanghui as double insurance.
